Exams

* Annual vaccinations — (Vaccine protocols are tailored to the specific needs of your pet. Whether you hunt with your dog or travel across the country with your cat, we can make vaccination recommendations to specifically suit your pet’s lifestyle dependent upon the risks they may encounter).
* New Pet/Puppy/Kitten Wellness Checks — (Your first visit with your new pet, whether young or old, is dedicated to covering any questions you may have about housing, training, behavior, diet, and care. During this time, your pet can be screened for potential health problems and intestinal parasites/fleas/ticks before entering its new home. We can also assist you in choosing monthly preventatives and pet care products).
* Geriatric — (Sometimes your older pet doesn’t need any vaccines yet but may be acting lethargic, or slowing down, or behaving strangely. These may be early warning signs to underlying metabolic or orthopedic diseases. Schedule an appointment to discuss your pet’s changing lifestyle and screen for potential organ insufficiency or infection).
* Presurgical — (If your pet has not been seen by our veterinarians within the previous 2 months, you should schedule a presurgical physical exam. These visits can often be scheduled on the morning of the procedure).
* Parasite testing — (During routine vaccination visits your pet is often tested for intestinal parasites and heartworms. Dogs that are used for hunting, go on vacations to beaches, or hike with their owners should be tested for tick-borne diseases IF they have a history of ticks previously embedded in the skin AND they show clinical signs such as intermittent shifting leg lameness, lethargy, waxing/waning fever, inappetance, or swollen limbs).
* Client education — (Many problems require additional time for consultation and questions. Allergies, behavioral problems (i.e. inappropriate elimination, aggression, separation anxiety), seizures, pre-breeding exams/testing, or new puppy/kitten litter exams can be scheduled as longer appointments to allow adequate time).
* Second opinion/Consultation — (You may seek time with one of our veterinarians to re-evaluate your pet for a pre-determined health condition or to have additional diagnostics performed at our hospital).

* Pre-travel/health certificates — (All of our veterinarians are accredited to perform physical exams for international travel. Also, commercial airlines often require official documentation of a physical exam called a health certificate before travel within the United States, whether shipped in the coach cabin or in the cargo hold. Call your airline for further details, allowing the necessary time before travel for an exam).
Diagnostics

* Full-Service Laboratory — (Many of our available tests can be run in the hospital DURING your appointment. With results in-hand, you and one of our doctors can make crucial medical and surgical decisions together)!
* Digital Radiography — (We have the most current technology available for radiographs. Just like many human hospitals, we can take radiographs and view them in just SECONDS. This technology affords us the best clarity and detail for better, diagnostic images).
* Electrocardiogram — (An electrocardiogram is a recording of the electrical activity of the heart and is often used to diagnose abnormal heart rhythms, heart disease, or metabolic aberrations. We can transmit our recordings over the telephone to board-certified cardiologists for review and consultation. Results can be received within the hour if needed to guide emergency treatment or necessary medication recommendations).
* Glaucoma screening with Ocular Tonometry — (With the use of a specialized hand held instrument, we are able to measure the pressure within the globe of the eye to screen for diseases such as glaucoma. The non-invasive technique is not painful, can be performed during the appointment and does not require sedation or anesthesia. Screening for diseases such as glaucoma or following up treatment for recently diagnosed disease will prevent unnecessary blindness and discomfort).
* Ultrasound — (Ultrasound emits soundwaves that are reflected from tissue and converted into electrical energy. The electrical energy is recorded and displayed on a monitor so that we may evaluate the internal organ architecture. This non-invasive, pain-free technique is performed at your doctor’s recommendation when radiographs or bloodwork are abnormal. Pets often do not need to be sedated for ultrasound, but hair is often clipped and your pet spends part of the day with us).
* Permanent identification — (We offer microchip implantation at the owner’s request. The Avid microchip can be placed during an appointment or during surgical procedures already scheduled to aid you in relocating your pet should they get lost. This form of identification is permanent proof of ownership, unlike collars that can be lost or broken. Microchip scanners are available to many local shelters, police departments, and humane societies allowing the local authorities the ability to trace a stray pet back to their rightful owner).
* Full access to area doctors — (If there is a diagnostic test or treatment required that may not be offered at our hospital, we have a wide network of board-certified specialists in the fields of dentistry, dermatology, internal medicine, orthopedic/soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, and radiology (specializing in performing and interpreting radiographs, ultrasounds, CT scans, and MRIs).

Surgery

* Spaying/Neutering — (Spaying/castrating your pet is recommended at 6-months of age).
* Routine soft tissue/orthopedic surgery — (We routinely perform surgeries such as bladder stone retrieval (cystotomy), tumor removals (+/- biopsy to board-certified pathologists), anterior cruciate ligament repair, laceration repair, stomach/intestinal foreign body removal (gastrotomy or enterotomy, respectively), anal sac removal, repair of medial patellar luxations, tail amputation, dewclaw removal, and removal of the spleen (splenectomy) as required for our patients medical condition and/or at the owner’s request).
* Feline Declaw (onchyectomy) — (By utilizing a CO2 laser for feline declaws, we are able to greatly minimize soft tissue trauma, swelling, and hemorrhage for a faster, more pain-free recovery. Cats spend one night in the hospital and go home the following day without sutures or bandages).
* Complete dental prophy/polishing/tooth extraction capability — (With our dental unit, we are able to rapidly and efficiently clean your pets teeth to rid the mouth of harmful bacteria that can accumulate over time and lead to heart/kidney disease, low-level chronic infections and bad breath).
* Anesthesia monitoring — (Every animal that undergoes anesthesia is monitored extensively. We are able to evaluate respiratory rate, blood oxygenation, heart rate, body temperature, and blood pressure to ensure a safe anesthetic episode for your pet).
* Gas anesthesia — (Like human medicine, we use inhalation anesthesia for rapid induction and recovery during your pet’s surgery. Because of this, we are often able to send pets home undergoing routine procedures just hours after arrival).
* Circulating warm water beds — (For the added comfort and safety of your pet undergoing anesthesia, they are placed on warm water beds to maintain their body temperature within the normal range. With normal temperatures, animals maintain better blood flow and blood pressures and often recover from anesthesia much more rapidly).
* Oxygen therapy kennel(s) — (For the smallest of kittens to the large dog, we are able to give your pet pure oxygen therapy during critical periods such as stress, shock and/or respiratory difficulty).

Pharmacy

* Preventatives — (We offer a wide range of monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives specialized for your pet’s lifestyle and your household’s needs).
* Full range of specialty shampoos, supplements/vitamins, dental care products — (We offer many shampoos for the special pet with skin problems. In addition, many recommended joint/skin/coat supplements can be dispensed during your appointment for you to try at home. After dental procedures, we include a complimentary home dental product of your choice for you and your pet to sample at home. These may be requested or recommended during appointments and are available at that time for you to take with you).
* On-site pharmacy — (Many of our routinely prescribed drugs are available at the hospital for your convenience).
* Internet pharmacy — (We offer a hospital internet off-site pharmacy for prescription/preventative refills, prescription diets and specialty drug compounding, with home delivery in 3-5 days through the use of your home computer).
* Presciption dog/cat foods (We carry Hills/Science Diet, Eukanuba/Iams, Purina, and Royal Canine brands) — (Many of these diets, although prescribed, should be ordered 7-10 days ahead of time to assure we have them available at the time of pick-up).

Boarding

* Boarding for special needs patients — (We can provide accommodations for those animals that are often not accepted at area facilities. Whether they be diabetic, geriatric, or in need of multiple daily medications/injections, we can arrange for the care of your pet while you’re away).
* In-home pet care — (Many of our technicians offer their skills and service to our clients if needed for daily home visits. Just ask—we’ll be happy to refer you to a qualified staff member. If they are unable to assist you, we can also provide you with a list of client-recommended local boarding facilities).
